28 MAY 06 - Sq.18 at Watsonville Airshow by 1st Lt. Ha, CAP
The 42nd annual Watsonville Fly-in & Airshow was held over Memorial Day weekend (27-28 May) at Watsonville Municipal Airport, home to CAP Santa Cruz Composite Squadron 13. San Francisco Bay Group 2 organized CAP's participation in the event. Various aircraft including a vintage WW II biplane (above taxing onto runway) were present. Approximately 60 cadets from throughout California Wing answered the call to help with the airshow. They provided flight-line security, crowd control, & other important duties to ensure the safety of participants & spectators alike. Squadron 18 was well represented in the command staff & in the rank-&-file staff of the event. Squadron 18's Cadet Major Crawford and Cadet Captain McCoy served as Cadet Commander & Cadet Deputy Commander respectively at the activity.
The Squadron 18 Color Guard also played a pivotal role by presenting the colors in the opening ceremonies (above). The Color Guard consisted of enlisted cadets-Jackson, Aboytes, Sutton, Rivers, & Bledsoe. A steady breeze kept the colors aloft while the Color Guard marched to the salute of participants & spectators. It is considered a great honor to carry the flag of the United States at such an event. Squadron 18 looks forward to participating in next year's Watsonville Fly-in & Airshow.
