Encampment is perhaps the most influential program in a Cadet's CAP Career. Basic cadets that graduate join the thousands of Cadet Training Group members that have benefited from this rigorous experience. Cadets in Civil Air Patrol are required to attend an encampment as a prerequisite for attaining the coveted General Billy Mitchell Award and attaining cadet officer status.

Cadets will experience a broad variety of training including;

  • Orientation Flights
  • Military Obstacle Course
  • M-16 Rifle Orientation
  • Cadet Physical Fitness Test
  • Drill and Volleyball competitions
  • Barracks Training
  • Military Career Briefing
  • And a lot of FUN

These and many more training experiences will help Basic Cadets form a strong base of knowledge and friendships that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Two Firebirds selected for National Cadet Special Activities

07 APR 2012

This year when the NCSA selections were announced two Firebirds were among those with the honor of earning spots in these highly coveted activities.

C/CMSgt Rachel Crosby will be participating in the Model Aircraft & Remote Control Flight Academy being held at Oshkosh, WI. Here aspiring R/C pilots will receive formal AMA ground instruction and will fly with a certified AMA flight instructor. Through the use of buddy-boxes and hobby industry recognized basic and advanced model aircraft, you will learn from the best instructors. Included in the cost for this academy are an R/C airplane, radio transmitter and spare battery pack to take home at course completion. Many cadets will not only solo, but move on to complete the expert level at this academy!

C/Lt Col Kenneth Sturgill was selected as a Cadet Ambassador, participating in the International Air Cadet Exchange program. He will be visiting Belgium for a two week tour. As described in the IACE Charter:
'International exchange programs are examples of international education at its best, because we tend to learn best through direct experience. UNESCO is proud of its longstanding networks of university chairs, scholarships, associated schools, and real and 'virtual' exchanges that bring students, teachers, researchers and policy makers together across borders. These programs build communication, understanding and trust, while increasing appreciation of both our differences and our common ground.'
